Slow or no cranking
With good batteries and cables, a starter that turns slowly or only clicks is worn.
Grinding on engagement
Worn pinion or flywheel teeth grind on start. Check the ring gear when fitting a new starter.
Intermittent starting
Worn brushes and solenoid contacts make starting hit and miss.
Fleet spares
A spare starter keeps a machine working while the old one is rebuilt or scrapped.
