Caterpillar 161-1704 is the engine oil pressure sensor with a brass body, female hex port, O ring and a black three pin connector. It is used on Caterpillar 329D and 330D excavators. This aftermarket version has the same mounting and electrical connector as the original, so it plugs in and bolts on where the old one came off.
The same part is also sold as Caterpillar 210-1747.
Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases
Wrong or missing reading
A failed sensor gives a dead or false gauge reading or a warning light.
Fault codes
Check the wiring and plug first; if the sensor itself reads out of range, replace it.
Corrosion
Connectors on machines take water and dirt. A corroded sensor is cheaper to replace than to chase.
Fleet spares
Common sensors are worth keeping in stock for each machine type.

Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my Caterpillar 328D LCR?
Yes, it was made for the Caterpillar 328D LCR, and 4 more listed under compatible equipment. Check the old sensor is marked 161-1704 or one of the cross references, because makers change parts between serial ranges.
How often should I replace the sensor on my Caterpillar 328D LCR?
On the Caterpillar 328D LCR, there is no fixed interval. It is changed when it fails, and many fail from water in the plug or chafed wiring rather than wear.
What are the signs the sensor needs replacing?
A fault code for this circuit, readings that jump or stay fixed, or a part that does not respond with power at the plug.
Does the voltage matter?
Yes. Many machines have 12 V and 24 V versions of the same sensor. Check the old part or the machine plate before fitting.
How do I test the old part first?
Read the fault codes, then check the plug and wiring for corrosion or a broken wire. A wiring fault reads the same as a failed sensor.
Is this a genuine Caterpillar 161-1704?
No. It is an aftermarket sensor made to replace the Caterpillar 161-1704. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
