Caterpillar 249-9226 is the Delphi DP210 type rotary distributor pump: a bright aluminium body with a black mounting bracket, four capped outlets, the throttle and stop levers with return springs and a capped drive shaft. It is used on Caterpillar 3054C and C4.4 engines. This aftermarket version is made to the same mounting and connections as the original, so it fits where the old one came off.

Hard starting and low power
A worn injection pump delivers less fuel at lower pressure: long cranking and weak power under load.
Smoke and uneven running
Uneven delivery between cylinders shows as smoke and rough running.
Fuel leaks
Leaks from the pump body or shaft seal mean it is time to replace it.
Fitting tips
Set the pump timing to the engine maker's figure, bleed the fuel system, and use clean fuel and new filters.
