Caterpillar 310135 is the 3LM turbocharger: a twin entry cast iron turbine housing with a four bolt inlet flange, and an aluminium compressor housing with an angled outlet. It is used on Caterpillar 3306 engines. This aftermarket version is made to the same mounting and connections as the original, so it fits where the old one came off.
The same part is also sold as Caterpillar 7C7582, Caterpillar 178-0389 and Caterpillar 7N7748.
Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Use cases and applications
What it does
Exhaust gas spins the turbine, which drives the compressor wheel on the same shaft and pushes more air into the engine. More air lets the engine burn more fuel cleanly, giving the rated power.
Where it is used
Made for the Caterpillar 3306 engines and including the 330B excavator. The full list is in the tables above.

Frequently asked questions
Will it replace my Caterpillar 310135?
Yes, it is a direct replacement for the Caterpillar 310135 with the same fitting.
How often should I replace the Caterpillar 310135?
Often as long as the engine, 8,000 hours or more, when the oil and air filters are kept on schedule. Most turbos fail early from oil or dirt problems, not age.
What are the signs the turbocharger needs replacing?
Blue or black smoke, a whistle or siren noise, loss of power, oil in the intake or exhaust, or the shaft rubbing the housing.
What should I do before the first start?
Pour clean engine oil into the oil inlet and turn the shaft by hand, then crank the engine with the fuel cut until oil pressure shows. Let it idle for a minute before load.
Should I change the oil and filter as well?
Yes. Fit new oil and a new filter, and replace the oil feed and drain gaskets. Make sure the drain line is clear and runs downhill.
Is this a genuine Caterpillar 310135?
No. It is an aftermarket turbocharger made to replace the Caterpillar 310135. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
