Zinc selenide (ZnSe) beam combiner for CO2 laser engravers and cutters, 20 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick. It sits at 45 degrees in the beam combiner mount just after the laser tube, where the invisible 10.6 µm CO2 beam passes straight through it and a visible red pointer (500 to 700 nm) is reflected off its face onto exactly the same line.
The result is a red dot that travels the whole beam path with the laser: through the mirrors, down the head and onto the work. It shows where the laser will fire before a job starts, and it makes mirror alignment far quicker because the beam path can be seen. One face is coated to transmit 10.6 µm with very little loss, the other to reflect red light, so the lens must face the right way in the mount.
Check the size before ordering: most beam combiner mounts on glass tube machines take a 20 mm lens, larger heads take 25 mm. A beam combiner sits close to the tube output, so a dirty or burnt combiner costs power on every job, not only on the red dot.

Applications & use cases
Adding a red dot to a CO2 machine
Fitted in a beam combiner mount with a red pointer, it puts a visible dot on the same path as the laser, so job placement can be checked before firing.
Faster mirror alignment
With the red dot on the beam path, mirrors can be lined up by eye at low risk before confirming with test pulses on tape.
Replacing a burnt or cloudy combiner
Smoke and back reflections cloud the coating over time. A combiner that has gone milky or shows a burn spot absorbs the beam and should be replaced.
Restoring lost power
Because every pulse passes through it, a worn combiner can cost cutting power even when the focus lens and mirrors are clean.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know this suits my machine?
Take the lens out of your beam combiner mount and measure it. This one is 20 mm in diameter and 2 mm thick. If yours is 25 mm, it needs the larger size.
Which way round does it go?
The face coated to reflect red light faces the red pointer, and the CO2 beam enters from the other side and passes straight through. If the dot is faint or the laser loses power after fitting, turn the lens over.
Is it a genuine part?
No. It is an aftermarket ZnSe beam combiner made to the standard 20 mm x 2 mm size. We do not claim it is made by the machine builder.
Does it come with the mount or the red pointer?
No. This is the lens only, for fitting into an existing beam combiner mount.
How do I clean it?
Hold it by the edge and wipe gently with lens tissue and optical grade alcohol or acetone. Never use paper towel or touch the faces with bare fingers.
Will the red dot line up with the laser?
Only after alignment. Set the combiner and pointer so the red dot and a test pulse land on the same spot near the tube, then again at the far end of the bed.
