Aftermarket replacement carbon vane set for Orion KRF70, KRA8, KRH8, KRA9 dry running (oil free) rotary vane vacuum pumps and compressors. It replaces Orion part number 04007480010 (also listed as 04101504010, 04106205010): a set of 6 graphite carbon vanes, each 162 x 51 x 7 mm (length x height x thickness).
In a dry running Orion pump the carbon vanes are the main wear part. They slide in the rotor slots, are thrown out against the cylinder wall and wear a little on every turn. As they shorten the pump loses vacuum and flow, runs hotter and gets noisier, and a vane worn too far can break and damage the cylinder. Orion gives a minimum vane height in each pump's manual; change the full set before the vanes reach it.
Always change all 6 vanes together so the rotor stays balanced, and clean the carbon dust out of the pump and filters while it is open. The vanes are made from self lubricating graphite carbon to the Orion size and come as a complete set for one pump.

Measure the vane height at every service and change the set before it reaches Orion's minimum for your pump. Keeping a spare set means the change happens at the service, not after a breakdown.
Falling vacuum or flow
If the pump takes longer to pull down, holds a weaker vacuum, or sheets and parts start slipping, worn vanes are the usual cause once the filters are clean.
Noisy or hot running
Short or chipped vanes chatter in the slots and the pump runs hotter. Stop and check the vanes before one breaks.
