Applications & use cases
Low power and black smoke
A worn turbo that no longer builds boost leaves the engine short of air: it smokes black and pulls weakly under load. Check the intake and charge pipes for leaks first.
Oil in the intake or exhaust
Oil in the charge pipes or blue smoke from the exhaust points at worn shaft seals or bearings. Fix the cause (oil feed, drain, air filter) before fitting the new turbo.
Whistle, scraping or shaft play
A siren-like whistle, a wheel touching its housing or play you can feel at the shaft means the turbo is failing. Replace it before the wheel breaks up.
Fitting tips
Fit a new oil feed and drain gasket, clean or replace the oil feed line, prime the turbo with clean oil before the first start and let the engine idle for a minute before load.
