SPM-HEP-4689 is the 24 volt fuel shutoff solenoid with a mounting flange, moulded boot, a linkage rod with rod end and a sealed three pin plug. It is used on Cummins 4BT, 6BT and 6C engines. This aftermarket version has the same mounting and electrical connector as the original, so it plugs in and bolts on where the old one came off.

It replaces Cummins 3935457 and Woodward SA-4762-24.

Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases

Engine will not start or will not stop
A failed fuel shutoff solenoid holds the fuel off (no start) or will not cut it (no stop). Check power at the plug first.

Engine cuts out
A weak pull-in or hold coil lets the solenoid drop out under vibration and the engine stalls.

Sticking plunger
Dirt and corrosion stop the plunger moving freely. Replacing the solenoid is quicker than freeing an old one.

Fleet spares
A spare solenoid on the van turns a no-start into a quick fix on site.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my Cummins 4BT?

Yes, it was made for the Cummins 4BT, and 2 more listed under compatible equipment. Check the old solenoid is marked 3935457 or one of the cross references, because makers change parts between serial ranges.

How often should I replace the solenoid on my Cummins 4BT?

On the Cummins 4BT, there is no fixed interval. It is changed when it fails, and many fail from water in the plug or chafed wiring rather than wear.

What are the signs the solenoid needs replacing?

A fault code for this circuit, readings that jump or stay fixed, or a part that does not respond with power at the plug.

Does the voltage matter?

Yes. Many machines have 12 V and 24 V versions of the same solenoid. Check the old part or the machine plate before fitting.

Do the fault codes need clearing?

Usually. Clear them after fitting and run the machine, so old codes are not mistaken for a new fault.

Is this a genuine Cummins 3935457?

No. It is an aftermarket solenoid made to replace the Cummins 3935457. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
