SPM-HEP-4694 is the 24 volt fuel shutdown solenoid with a mounting flange, moulded boot, plunger and a sealed three pin plug on a sleeved lead. It is used on Cummins engines. This aftermarket version has the same mounting and electrical connector as the original, so it plugs in and bolts on where the old one came off.
It replaces Cummins 3990771 and Woodward SA-4931-24.
Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases
Engine will not start or will not stop
A failed fuel shutoff solenoid holds the fuel off (no start) or will not cut it (no stop). Check power at the plug first.
Engine cuts out
A weak pull-in or hold coil lets the solenoid drop out under vibration and the engine stalls.
Sticking plunger
Dirt and corrosion stop the plunger moving freely. Replacing the solenoid is quicker than freeing an old one.
Fleet spares
A spare solenoid on the van turns a no-start into a quick fix on site.

Frequently asked questions
Will it replace my Cummins 3990771?
Yes, it is a direct replacement for the Cummins 3990771 with the same fitting.
How often should I replace the Cummins 3990771?
There is no fixed interval. It is changed when it fails, and many fail from water in the plug or chafed wiring rather than wear.
What are the signs the solenoid needs replacing?
A fault code for this circuit, readings that jump or stay fixed, or a part that does not respond with power at the plug.
How do I test a solenoid coil?
Measure the coil resistance with a multimeter and check for supply voltage at the plug with the circuit on. An open coil reads infinite.
How do I test the old part first?
Read the fault codes, then check the plug and wiring for corrosion or a broken wire. A wiring fault reads the same as a failed solenoid.
Is this a genuine Cummins 3990771?
No. It is an aftermarket solenoid made to replace the Cummins 3990771. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
