SPM-HEP-4714 is the 24 volt fuel shutoff solenoid with a mounting bracket, grey moulded boot, adjustable linkage rod with clip, and a black three pin plug on a sleeved lead. It is used on Cummins 6BT engines. This aftermarket version has the same mounting and electrical connector as the original, so it plugs in and bolts on where the old one came off.

It replaces Cummins 3974947, Cummins SD-008A2 and Cummins D59-105-06.

Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases

Engine will not start or will not stop
A failed fuel shutoff solenoid holds the fuel off (no start) or will not cut it (no stop). Check power at the plug first.

Engine cuts out
A weak pull-in or hold coil lets the solenoid drop out under vibration and the engine stalls.

Sticking plunger
Dirt and corrosion stop the plunger moving freely. Replacing the solenoid is quicker than freeing an old one.

Fleet spares
A spare solenoid on the van turns a no-start into a quick fix on site.

Frequently asked questions

Will it replace my Cummins 3974947?

Yes, it is a direct replacement for the Cummins 3974947 with the same fitting.

How often should I replace the Cummins 3974947?

There is no fixed interval. It is changed when it fails, and many fail from water in the plug or chafed wiring rather than wear.

What are the signs the solenoid needs replacing?

A fault code for this circuit, readings that jump or stay fixed, or a part that does not respond with power at the plug.

Should I grease the connector?

A little dielectric grease keeps water out of the plug on machines that work outside. Make sure the terminals are clean and tight first.

How do I test a solenoid coil?

Measure the coil resistance with a multimeter and check for supply voltage at the plug with the circuit on. An open coil reads infinite.

Is this a genuine Cummins 3974947?

No. It is an aftermarket solenoid made to replace the Cummins 3974947. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
