Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my Cummins QSB?
Yes, it was made for the Cummins QSB, and 6 more listed under compatible equipment. Check the old alternator is marked 4936877 or one of the cross references, because makers change parts between serial ranges.
How often should I replace the alternator on my Cummins QSB?
On the Cummins QSB, typically 5,000 to 10,000 hours, depending on how often the machine is started and how well the batteries are kept.
What are the signs the alternator needs replacing?
A charge warning, low battery voltage with the engine running, flickering lights or bearing noise.
What should I check before fitting it?
Battery voltage under load, the earth strap and the main cable. A weak supply makes a good alternator look faulty and will burn out the new one.
Do I need to move the pulley or fan?
Check the old unit before you send it away. Pulleys and fans are often fitted to suit the machine and have to be moved across.
Is this a genuine Cummins 4936877?
No. It is an aftermarket alternator made to replace the Cummins 4936877. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
