SPM-HEP-5238 is the 12 volt DEF (AdBlue) doser fluid supply module: the black pump and motor housing, the silver centre block with the DEF inlet, outlet and return connectors, and the sealed electrical plug. It is used on Cummins B6.7 and L9 engines. This aftermarket version is made to the same mounting and connections as the original, so it fits where the old one came off.

Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases

Low DEF pressure fault
A worn pump motor or diaphragm cannot build dosing pressure, and the engine logs an SCR or DEF pressure fault.

Engine derate
When DEF is not dosed the aftertreatment system cuts engine power until the fault is fixed.

Crystallised or frozen DEF
Dried urea crystals and freezing damage the pump and its check valves. Replace the pump if flushing does not clear the fault.

Fitting tips
Disconnect the battery, clean the DEF line connectors before opening them, fit the new pump with new seals and run the DEF priming test.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my Cummins B6.7 CM2350 B121B?

Yes, it was made for the Cummins B6.7 CM2350 B121B, and 4 more listed under compatible equipment. Check the old def pump is marked 5509448 or one of the cross references, because makers change parts between serial ranges.

How often should I replace the def pump on my Cummins B6.7 CM2350 B121B?

On the Cummins B6.7 CM2350 B121B, often 5,000 to 10,000 hours with clean fluid, much less with dirt or air in the system. It is usually changed on condition, not by hours.

What are the signs the def pump needs replacing?

Leaks from the seal or weep hole, noise or whining, overheating, or falling pressure or flow under load.

What should I do with the gasket faces?

Clean them right back to metal and fit the new gasket or O-ring dry, unless the engine manual calls for sealant.

Why did the old pump fail?

Most failures come from contamination, cavitation from a restricted inlet, or running low on fluid. Check the inlet and the fluid before fitting the new def pump.

Is this a genuine Cummins 5509448?

No. It is an aftermarket def pump made to replace the Cummins 5509448. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
