Caterpillar 585-9230 is the hydraulic pump proportional solenoid valve (flange mounted cartridge with integral connector). It is used on Caterpillar next generation 312 to 340 excavators. This aftermarket valve has the same ports, mounting and coil connector as the original, so it fits where the old one came off.

Slow or weak hydraulics
When the machine loses power at the pump, digs slowly or stalls the engine under load, the pump control solenoid is a common cause once the pilot pressure and filters check out.
Pump fault codes
A solenoid or pump control fault on the monitor points to the valve, its plug or the wiring. Measure the coil resistance and check the connector for water before replacing the valve.
Sticking spool
Dirty oil wears the spool and makes it stick, so the pump does not follow the controls. Fit a new valve and change the hydraulic filters.
Fitting tips
Relieve the hydraulic pressure before removing the old valve, fit the new O rings lightly oiled, tighten to the machine maker's torque and check for leaks and correct operation before work.
