Caterpillar 20R-4782 is the Denso HP4 type common rail supply pump: alloy body with the black pumping head, the suction control valve with its plug, bent steel feed pipes, fuel temperature sensor and a taper drive shaft with nut. It is used on Caterpillar C7.1 engines (320E to 329E). This aftermarket version is made to the same mounting and connections as the original, so it fits where the old one came off.

The same part is also sold as Denso 294050-0520 and Caterpillar 368-9041.

Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases

Hard starting and low power
A worn injection pump delivers less fuel at lower pressure: long cranking and weak power under load.

Smoke and uneven running
Uneven delivery between cylinders shows as smoke and rough running.

Fuel leaks
Leaks from the pump body or shaft seal mean it is time to replace it.

Fitting tips
Set the pump timing to the engine maker's figure, bleed the fuel system, and use clean fuel and new filters.

Frequently asked questions

Will it replace my Caterpillar 20R-4782?

Yes, it is a direct replacement for the Caterpillar 20R-4782 with the same fitting.

How often should I replace the Caterpillar 20R-4782?

Often 5,000 to 10,000 hours with clean fluid, much less with dirt or air in the system. It is usually changed on condition, not by hours.

What are the signs the fuel injection pump needs replacing?

Leaks from the seal or weep hole, noise or whining, overheating, or falling pressure or flow under load.

Why did the old pump fail?

Most failures come from contamination, cavitation from a restricted inlet, or running low on fluid. Check the inlet and the fluid before fitting the new fuel injection pump.

What should I do with the gasket faces?

Clean them right back to metal and fit the new gasket or O-ring dry, unless the engine manual calls for sealant.

Is this a genuine Caterpillar 20R-4782?

No. It is an aftermarket fuel injection pump made to replace the Caterpillar 20R-4782. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
