Caterpillar 247-8968 is the variable displacement axial piston pump with a splined drive shaft, a two bolt mounting flange and an electrically controlled (solenoid) regulator with its wiring lead. It is used on Caterpillar 365B, 365C and 374D excavators. This aftermarket version is made to the same mounting and connections as the original, so it fits where the old one came off.

Sold as one unit. Check the number on your old part, or in the parts manual for your machine, before ordering.

Applications & use cases

Slow or weak hydraulics
A worn pump loses flow and pressure: functions slow down, especially when the oil is hot.

Noise
Whining or knocking from the pump points to worn gears or pistons, or cavitation from a blocked suction line.

Contamination
Metal in the filter or oil means the pump is wearing. Replace it before debris damages valves and motors.

Fitting tips
Flush the system, change the oil and filters, fill the pump case before starting, and run at low speed first.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my Caterpillar 365B?

Yes, it was made for the Caterpillar 365B, and 6 more listed under compatible equipment. Check the old hydraulic pump is marked 247-8968 or one of the cross references, because makers change parts between serial ranges.

How often should I replace the hydraulic pump on my Caterpillar 365B?

On the Caterpillar 365B, often 5,000 to 10,000 hours with clean fluid, much less with dirt or air in the system. It is usually changed on condition, not by hours.

What are the signs the hydraulic pump needs replacing?

Leaks from the seal or weep hole, noise or whining, overheating, or falling pressure or flow under load.

Does the case drain need filling?

On piston pumps, yes. Fill the case through the drain port with clean hydraulic oil before the first start, or the bearings run dry.

What should I do with the gasket faces?

Clean them right back to metal and fit the new gasket or O-ring dry, unless the engine manual calls for sealant.

Is this a genuine Caterpillar 247-8968?

No. It is an aftermarket hydraulic pump made to replace the Caterpillar 247-8968. It is not made by the original manufacturer; the number only shows what it replaces.
